Adrienne

This is how Adrienne watches her Winnie the Pooh mobile. It is so adorable (in my unbiased opinion!). She even started crying the other day when it stopped! She's getting quite responsive now and is starting to make those sweet cooing sounds sometimes.

Indoor Picnic

It's a dreary, rainy day today, so we needed something fun to do! I made the girls go downstairs to play while I fixed a picnic lunch for them in a lunch bag that Anna-Christina found the other day. I made them walk "through the woods" until they found this. They thought it was pretty great! It even gave me something fun to do! :-) They are still sitting there very quietly, trying not to wake the sleeping bears. Okay, scratch that - they just pulled their guns out and started shooting!

It's Spring!!!

Spring is here! Thank you God for the change of seasons!!! You can almost watch the snow melting away these days. Yesterday was sunny all day and absolutely beautiful. We went for a long walk at Kildonan Park and later the girls played outside for a long time. Today is cloudy and drab, but the temp is still above freezing so I won't complain! The girls are so much happier now that we are getting out more. There's not near as much fighting going on these days (and for that we are truly grateful! :)
And guess what? I'm in a good mood too. :-)

Food for Thought

This is turning into a recipe sharing site! This is fun. Thanks for all the ideas - I'm even using some of them this week. I'll share my menus with you since you asked...
Monday - Deer meat (don't particularly love it but it was free) with peppercorn sauce (also free!) and rice
Tuesday - Chicken Curry (RL book for those of you who care)
Wednesday - Sweet&Sour Meatballs & brown rice (thanks Sabrina)
Thursday - Salmon Chowder (uses canned salmon so it's cheap - thanks Dad Schantz)
Friday - Meatloaf (from the freezer) & baked potatoes
Saturday and Sunday - leftovers and starving ourselves so we can pig out when Kirk, Karla, and Jose come! :-)

Let's Share Ideas

Okay, I did my part, now you have to do yours. Girls out there (or guys too, for that matter) let me know what you're cooking this week. OK? I need ideas too. I'm going to try and do one new recipe a week for awhile. Of course I'm always interested in economical meals. So give me ideas before my Monday morning meal planning! :-) (And if you really want, I'll share my menu again...if you'll keep your end of the deal)

Friday

Here is a picture of the coffee table that Daryl made while he was on his holidays. We are getting so many compliments on it I thought I should post a picture. I was pretty impressed with his woodworking skills!

I had a nice day today - I got to have coffee and visit with Val and Jenn. When we're together there are 5 little girls between all of us. It was a nice visit and I even convinced them to stay for lunch. (Even got Jenn to try my cream of brocolli soup!)

Daryl is on call tomorrow until Sunday morning. Kind of shoots the weekend for him. I guess we'll have to find things to keep up busy. The weather should be nice so maybe we'll go to the Forks or something. Kim and I might go shopping but too bad we don't have any money to blow...maybe we'll splurge and go to Salvation Army!

Smile!

I can't resist putting just one more of Adrienne up! Look down farther for another one.

Menus

Thanks for all the comments. I love reading them. So, you want menus, do you? Well, this week is kind of a cheat week, but I didn't know that when I planned my week. I'll tell you what we're having. Those men out there who don't care can just skip this part. Or read it and wipe the drool off your mouth...
Monday - Farmer's sausgage, potatoes and green beans
Tuesday - TomatoBaked Chicken and Cheesy Corn Bake, tossed salad
Wednesday - Kim's cooking night and she's ordering Subway! Yea!
Thursday - Spaghetti cottage cheese bake (previously frozen)
Friday - Polenta with Italian sausage and peppers
Saturday - who knows
Sunday - same menu as Saturday
There you have it. If you want a specific recipe, let me know. I have been in a very dry spell for recipes, so it was fun to try a few new things this week. Feel free to give me any ideas - I always need them too.
Keep commenting - I love it.

Monday

It's Monday again. That means time to do laundry and plan meals for the week. I've discovered over my "many years" of being a house wife that it is a huge stress reliever to plan my meals at the beginning of the week and get all the groceries I will need. So now my coffee is calling me - fresh Costa Rica that I just roasted this morning - and I will go sit and look through my cookbooks. Wanna join me, Rhonda?

We had a good weekend. Daryl was post-call on Saturday morning and just as he was coming in the door I was making a big breakfast. So we got to enjoy it together, in our sunny dining room! (Yeah for sunshine!) We went out to the metropolis of Kleefeld and had a pizza supper with Menno and Tammy, along with Daryl's brother Randy who was just returning from Cuba.

Anyone listen to CBC radio as faithful as Daryl and I? This morning they did a story on Tim's vs. Starbucks. Hmmmm...Some sort of business review company gave Starbucks a B- and Tim Horton's an E-! Doesn't seem fair to me. Apparantly one of the issues is Starbucks as increased their fair-trade coffee usage to 1%, while Tim's is 0. I don't like to hear that, but I think I'll continue to support Timmy's. Can't help it, ok.

Our Injured Kids

Olivia can't decide whether to keep crying or smile for the pictures!

Adrienne is 1 month

Accident-prone Kids

On Wednesday of last week Daryl took the girls to one of the local pools. This one happened to have a great waterslide. So Daryl decided to take Olivia down on his lap. He also likes to lay down to make himself go faster. So he laid down and Olivia sat on his lap. When they went around the corner (apparently at quite a good speed) her head whipped around and hit the side of the slide. Thank goodness she wasn't hurt worse. Daryl said she screamed the rest of the way down and as soon as they got to the bottom she wanted to go again! She came home with a big shiner on the right side of her forehead.
Then on Saturday we were getting out of the van, on our way into some friends' house to visit. Olivia slipped on the ice and whacked her head really hard on the gravel/ice. It bled really bad and we wondered if she should get stiches. Anyway, we went in to visit and then left Anna-Christina there while we did some shopping. When we got back, she had a cut above her eye, and said that she had fallen against the coffee table and her glasses cut her.
When we got home, Daryl cleaned the cuts and took a closer look. He said they probably should each have at least one stich, but he didn't think it was worth waiting in emerg and holding them down for the freezing. So thank God for a doctor in the house! He put a piece of strong tape on each of them and sent them on their way!
I'll put some pictures of them on soon.

It's about time

I think it's about time I updated this. Sorry to all my faithful readers for not keeping up. ha ha (there's probably about 4 of you out there)
Life is busy and good. I have to say, it's different getting used to having 3 kids running around instead of just 2. Well, I guess there's only 2 running around but they do enough running for all three (and fighting).
My life is not very exciting these days with new things.

On Sunday I got to attend the Royal Winnipeg Ballet with a friend. Wow. It was done to the music of Handel's "Messiah". Beautiful. My only disappointments were that I couldn't see the orchestra, and the ballet didn't really tell the story the way I was hoping it would. It was so beautiful though. The dancers were all in white (and the guys weren't wearing skin tight pants - thank goodness). The backdrop and stage looked like we were at the ocean during a beautiful sunset that kept changing colours and the dancers were dancing on the white sand. Oh to be that graceful and lean!!! :-)
