Baby

Hi all. This is Daryl. I am new at this, but here goes.
We have a new baby girl! Her name is Emilie Claire. I was hoping to go with the more traditional spelling of her name so that the dear kid doesn't have to go through her life spelling it out for every one, but I was over-ruled by...the boss. Anyway, Robyn did very well. This was her shortest active labour and delivery. Emilie was born at 11:38 on Sept 30. They are both doing well.

Good News, Bad News

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?
Okay, I'll give you the bad news. Alright, so it's not really that bad, just disappointing. I had a midwife app't. today, and we decided it might be good for her to check me internally and stir things up a bit, and to see where things are at. Well, I got excited at first because she said baby's head is right down low. But that's just baby. Without going into detail, let's just say my body is nowhere near ready to let the baby out.
Now, lest I get too disappointed, I must remember this:
Daryl was listening to Adrienne breathe tonight (she has a bit of a cold), and said she has bronchialitis. Not a big deal for a 1 1/2 yr old. But he said, "Hey, maybe that's why God's not letting the baby come yet". Apparently if a newborn would catch this it could be quite serious. I knew there had to be a reason this baby was not born this past weekend when everything seemed like the perfect conditions!
Thank God He knows what He's doing.

Now, some great news. Here is my Major Answer To Prayer:
Starting tomorrow, some kind and wonderful neighbors are going to start picking up Anna-Christina for school EVERY DAY. I can hardly believe it's true.
We have been praying about this all summer, ever since we found out I would be toting along 3 preschoolers instead of 2, and like I said before, I was stressing out about it. Not much faith, eh? I finally took the step and called up a family that lives close by - I just picked them because of their address out of our school directory.
Today we went to meet them, and I just can't believe how God put these kind and caring people in our lives right now. They are very genuine and I can tell they're doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, not "just to be nice". They've also offered to bring her home on the days that it suits them!
Thank you Jesus!

Hopefully next time I post it will be with pictures of a new baby. :-)

First day of school!
First day of preschool! By the way, the running around has gone very smoothly so far!

Alright, alright. Here's the belly picture you all want to see.

My Birthday

First of all, wow. Thanks everyone for all your birthday wishes. I love my birthday for that - I always feel so loved because I am always surprised at how many people remember me! Even if it's a quick email or message on the answering machine, it means a lot.

My day was extremely busy, unfortunately. :-( I shouldn't have gone to Community Kitchen because I'm afraid I wasn't much help anyway, but I thought it's probably my last time to be there for awhile. Anyway, it was fun. We had someone come in and teach us how to make perogies, since that's what everyone wanted to learn.

Anyway, when I got home after picking various kids up in various places, I crashed on the couch. Daryl made dinner (Tuscan Garlic Chicken on angel hair - Mmmmmm) and the girls had picked out a SPECIAL cake for me. Wow. I wish I would have taken a picture (kinda forgot in the midst of things). It was a roll cake with BRIGHT TEAL frosting, red plastic roses and tulips and shocking other colours. Anna-Christina asked the bakery to write "Happy Birthday Mom" on it and she was so pleased. :-) Very cute.

Oh, how could I forget - I took a cake to Comm. Kitchen since a few of us were having bdays. Chocolate Cake with PEANUT BUTTER ICING. Oh my was it good. You must try it.
Or you could just make the icing and eat it with a spoon. Yeah, it's that good.

Anyway, after the kids were tucked in, we left the in house babysitter with them and went for a nice cup of coffee.
It was a good birthday. :-)

Time For Something FRESH

Okay, time to change my look. Whaddaya think? I just have to figure out how to customize more of it. Anyway, I put some links here, and if you don't want to be on there, please let me know and I'll take you off. OK?

What Have I Done?

I'm very happy to report that we found a preschool for Olivia to attend this year.

Or am I?

We had decided that it was important for her to go this year, for a number of reasons. I feel like I don't have the energy or time to keep up with her this winter, giving her "brain food". It just doesn't come naturally to me to teach my kids; I have to really work hard at thinking of things for her to do. She really wanted to go to school, and we thought it would be good for her to have "her thing" to do.
So we signed her up at a Christian preschool that came highly recommend by a few different people, and that night I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned and all night long I stressed about how I'm going to run kids back and forth from school, with Adrienne and a new baby in tow.
Makes me almost crazy to think of it. But I also have to remember that we have been praying about it, and God knows my needs. I know I'm not the kind of person that can sit at home with 4 kids 7 days a week, so just maybe I'll get a kick out of running them to and fro. We'll see. :-)
Anyway, I'm trusting that things will work out. I have a couple people offering to help out with transportation, etc. so that gives me hope.

In other news...
Can I just say freely that I'm getting sick of people asking me when I'm going "to pop"?! Or saying, "When's that baby coming?!"
LIKE I KNOW! I mean, when you see me, isn't it a little obvious that you don't have to say, "No baby yet?" I sure hope there's not a baby sleeping in the next room, judging my the size of my belly!
I'm still 2 weeks away from my due date, for crying out loud! Anyway, I'm seriously praying that the baby is born this coming weekend (for a number of different reasons). But once again, God knows best! I know that He has perfect timing. Now if I could just convince everyone else of that...

Have a good week, ya'll. I'll keep you posted.
P.S. I was going to have Daryl take belly pictures of me tonight, but he got called into work. Guess you'll have to wait to actually see why people think I'm gonna pop.

The Haircut

So here it is. Obviously I had to straighten it to get it like this. But the good news is that when it's straight I don't have to wash it every day! (It wasn't the greatest hair day but you take what you can get) Your turn, Sabrina :-)

Getaway and other exciting news...

Daryl and I actually got to go away overnight on Friday night! Wow. It was amazing to sleep in, in a QUIET hotel room! Our "renter", Michelle, slept upstairs with the girls, and took care of them all day on Saturday. They were even kind to her and slept in until 7:30!
It was so refreshing to be able to get away with my honey one last time before I have a newborn attached to me!

Yesterday was our church fall kick-off. Anna-Christina participated in a fun dance after the worship time. It was cute. Daryl shared pictures from Madagascar and told about our time there, and it was the first day of Sunday School, which the kids were very excited about! Afterwards, we all met at the park for a picnic, followed by games for the kids. They all came home with a huge back of candy and small toys for prizes, and fun was had by all! I'm trying to post pictures but my computer is not reading my card for some reason.

I'm also trying to post pictures of my HAIRCUT!!! Since I know you're all rolling your eyes every time you see a picture of me with my hair in a ponytail and wondering WHEN ON EARTH I'm going to change my hairstyle. (Well anyway, that's what I was doing) I'll keep trying to post...

In other news, last week I accidentally hit a 50% off sale at Value Village! That was a nice surprise. It was fun to know my $20 purchase would have been $40. I bought all of AC's school clothes at 3 different second hand stores! Daryl and I have decided that we will ALWAYS start by trying to purchase things second hand now (except for socks, underwear, etc.!). We are just amazed at the amount of clothing that gets wasted when people drop off their brand name clothing at these stores and run out to buy more from the mall. And speaking of brand name clothing, I would rather buy it second hand than buy cheap stuff -new- for the same price.
Anyway, that's just my little rant. I guess it's our part in being "green" (thanks to my husband's influence).

And now here's my not-so-smart shopping experience. I bought a pair of Robeez for the new baby on eBay. I thought that the shipping cost automatically assumed my Canadian address since that's what's listed there, and since I can ship them to a US address, I thought it would be cheap. I should have double checked. But in my haste, I bid on them for $7, and now with the shipping I'm paying $21 US.
Uh, NOT so smart. I could have bought them at the mall the other day for $28, which I was not ABOUT to do.

I haven't told my husband yet...

Fall and Food

I'm actually ready to start another week! It feels so good to be in a fall routine again (I must be more of a routine person than I think). This morning the air really does feel like fall, and I saw it evidenced when I sat down with my coffee to plan my meals for the week...It's all comfort food!

Monday - bean pot and bake-at-home multigrain bread (I buy this type that's half baked)

Tuesday - meatloaf and mashed potatoes

Wednesday - borsht, crunchy buns and cheese

Thursday - chicken curry and rice

Friday - homemade pizza

I was looking through my recipe books and all the soups, breads, pies, etc. look so appetizing to me! I just want to bake!

Ah, Sunday...

It's a quiet afternoon.
We actually have company for the weekend (Cory and Jenn!), but they are gone right now. And our other girls (except for Adrienne) were invited out to play at a friend's place for a few hours. Wow. It's a quiet house. I had a nap and now I should go outside and enjoy the nice cool breeze.

We got back from Red Lake a week ago already, and I've been meaning to blog all week. When I was posting pictures I realized I didn't get any of the kids with their grandparents. Kind of silly of me. But we had a good time. Daryl and I both really enjoyed it a lot this time. Not like we don't usually enjoy it, but this time it was just extra good to get away from the city. Both of us noticed how nice it was to go to bed at night and wake up in the morning to silence. Open windows, cool breeze, maybe a loon call, and just the wind blowing through the poplar leaves. So wonderful.

It's been a bit of a rough week for me, I must admit. The girls are fighting every time I turn around (and also when I'm not turning around) and seem to be bored with life. I suppose it's the end of the summer blues, or whatever you wish to call it. Anna-Christina has been counting the days until school starts for quite awhile now and she is so pumped about her new school supplies, etc. It was fun getting ready and now there's only 2 more days to go. I'm so glad that she is already settled in this school and her teacher is someone from our church who she knows pretty well.
Next week she starts piano lessons with another good friend of ours (happens to be the sister of her grade one teacher!), and I think that is more exciting for me than for her!
I'm not looking forward to driving her to school (still haven't figured out carpooling...) but that's the only part weighing on me. We're just so happy she's in such a great Christian school.

I suppose now we have to find something for Olivia to occupy herself with. She was on a waiting list to go to preschool twice a week but didn't make it in. So I told her we'd put her in some type of lessons, activity, or whatever. Any suggestions? I'm thinking music of some sort...

This weekend has been full and fun. Like I said, Cory and Jenn are here. They got here in time for supper Friday night. Saturday morning after brunch, the guys started building a shed in our back yard (down by the neighbor's garage for those of you who care). Later Jason and Val came and the 3 guys got a lot accomplished! As for the gals...well, we burned a lot of calories chasing kids! We had a few broken and disjointed conversations, but it was fun anyway!

This week promises to be full with school starting, Community Kitchen, and who knows what else. I get to teach them how to make whole wheat bread this week and I'm looking forward to that.
