A Good Read
I just finished an interesting book (yeah, I actually finished it!) that I think a lot of "you" would enjoy. It's called Mommy Guilt by Bort, Pflock and Renner, and you can be part of their studies here . I wouldn't say I agree with 100% of everything they say, but I really enjoyed the read and it gave me a fresh perspective on my parenting. Their theory behind "The Seven Principles of the Mommy Guilt-Free Philosophy" is not that you should stop your guilt, but that you should rearrange your mindset and parenting style so that you don't have to feel guilty (or else tune in to it and listen to what the guilt is saying and do something about it). Anyway, I got the book for Christmas if anyone wants to borrow it someday I would be happy to loan it out. I think every mom should read it.

Hi Robyn,
We are so happy you enjoyed the book and we definitely won't give you a hard time about not agreeing with us 100%. Aviva and I have a goal and it is to help parents make their own decisions and trust themselves. Disagreeing with us is a decision we gotta support otherwise we would feel like hypocrites! You live with your family, we don't. YOU know best!
As for the website you linked in your post, that is an old portal site. Aviva and I have a blog and other information available at www.Parentopia.net. It includes our appearances and media coverage too. The study was "live" prior to the book being published. We didn't realize people could still access the survey. We apologize for any inconvenience!
We hope you will come and see us there! Thank you for reading our book. How awesome that we made it all the way to Haiti!
Now tell us, who gave you the book for Christmas?
This is really neat to get a comment from the author! Wow. And I know it's her because I recognize the picture. :-) I requested the book for Christmas from my bro-in-law.
sounds good, and yes, how great to get a comment from the author herself. you're practically famous now.
how's the weekend going?
Robyn,
Thank you so much for your interest in and comments about our book. Haiti - I once went to a summer theater camp with a girl from Haiti...
Anyway, I digress - I am quite honored that you FINISHED our book. I know what a rare event that is! As for not agreeing 100% - either did the three of us as authors. That is part of the beauty of this book. It is a reminder that there is no single right way of doing things. As Devra said, we don't live with your family (and you should be glad).
Thanks again and stop by parentopia.net some time to say "hi."
so, uh, when did you move to haiti? :-)
she has all kinds of secrets from her secret life. you'd be amazed...
Enjoyed your comments and authors' response on Mommy Guilt. That was so special to hear directly from them in response to your blog site! I checked out their site and got on the subject of birthday parties for kids. I have always felt some mothers are so driven by performance in many areas of child rearing, and birthday parties oare one such activity that mothers get into these power driven, performance modes. Makes me weary to hear some Mothers talk of "their child's birthday party!" Venture to say, most of these outlandish parties are not the ones that are well remembered by the child himself!
Robyn, I am praying that you and Daryl have a wonderful refreshing get away to Banff, Alberta. I do treasure the memories of those times we went with your parents to Banff for the IMCO meetings. Those were special times. We will be praying for you and Grandma Nisly as she cares for the little ones. Love to you all!
