Ah, Sunday...

It's a quiet afternoon.
We actually have company for the weekend (Cory and Jenn!), but they are gone right now. And our other girls (except for Adrienne) were invited out to play at a friend's place for a few hours. Wow. It's a quiet house. I had a nap and now I should go outside and enjoy the nice cool breeze.

We got back from Red Lake a week ago already, and I've been meaning to blog all week. When I was posting pictures I realized I didn't get any of the kids with their grandparents. Kind of silly of me. But we had a good time. Daryl and I both really enjoyed it a lot this time. Not like we don't usually enjoy it, but this time it was just extra good to get away from the city. Both of us noticed how nice it was to go to bed at night and wake up in the morning to silence. Open windows, cool breeze, maybe a loon call, and just the wind blowing through the poplar leaves. So wonderful.

It's been a bit of a rough week for me, I must admit. The girls are fighting every time I turn around (and also when I'm not turning around) and seem to be bored with life. I suppose it's the end of the summer blues, or whatever you wish to call it. Anna-Christina has been counting the days until school starts for quite awhile now and she is so pumped about her new school supplies, etc. It was fun getting ready and now there's only 2 more days to go. I'm so glad that she is already settled in this school and her teacher is someone from our church who she knows pretty well.
Next week she starts piano lessons with another good friend of ours (happens to be the sister of her grade one teacher!), and I think that is more exciting for me than for her!
I'm not looking forward to driving her to school (still haven't figured out carpooling...) but that's the only part weighing on me. We're just so happy she's in such a great Christian school.

I suppose now we have to find something for Olivia to occupy herself with. She was on a waiting list to go to preschool twice a week but didn't make it in. So I told her we'd put her in some type of lessons, activity, or whatever. Any suggestions? I'm thinking music of some sort...

This weekend has been full and fun. Like I said, Cory and Jenn are here. They got here in time for supper Friday night. Saturday morning after brunch, the guys started building a shed in our back yard (down by the neighbor's garage for those of you who care). Later Jason and Val came and the 3 guys got a lot accomplished! As for the gals...well, we burned a lot of calories chasing kids! We had a few broken and disjointed conversations, but it was fun anyway!

This week promises to be full with school starting, Community Kitchen, and who knows what else. I get to teach them how to make whole wheat bread this week and I'm looking forward to that.

Robyn, have you heard of Music for Young Children? it's a great program. we have both of our older boys in it. it's taught in a class of six kids, each with their parent there. there must be someone in your fine city who teaches it...

Hey - what in the world is community Kitchen? Something that only the amazing and talented hilda the housewife would attempt?

Community Kitchen is a gov't subsidised program (like most things in Canada) that teaches women basic cooking skills, health and economic meal planning. I help with it twice/month. Our church runs it through the food bank.

Say hi to Cory and Jenn for me if they are still there.

I hope you find the perfect program for Olivia. I'm not full of ideas right now.....

Nice to hear some news.... I'm getting excited that baby news will not be far off!!

Hey, Robyn I feel your frusteration about kids fighting all the time. I am readying a book called "Creative Correction" by Lisa Whelchel. It is an excellent book. I would recommend it to anyone. Hang in there!

I too suggest music for young children. I taught it for two years. You'll be amazed at what she'll learn. It's keyboard based, but is a great start for any instrument.
