The Call

So, I've been taking this Perspectives course, and I'm learning a lot. At first it was a bit too academic for me... a lot of reading and quite dry.
But I've had a bit of a revelation through this, and maybe I'm just slower than all of you, but I can finally put my thoughts into words, thanks to some reading I've done.

Every believer is called to share the Blessing with the nations, and to teach them to worship the Father. We are called to share the story of Christ. We can assume we are "called", when we put our faith in Christ. There is a "call" on our lives. It is the call of every believer in Jesus.
A lot of people say, "I'm not called to missions". What they mean is, "I'm not called to overseas missions".
Here is what I've finally caught on to:
You are either CALLED to go overseas, or you are CALLED to stay in North America.
Either way, you are called by God and appointed to be His messenger (2 Cor 5:20).
I can't stay in Canada until I feel the call to go overseas, and if I don't hear it, I don't go. Staying in our comfortable home is our default setting, until we "hear The Call". This is so wrong!
I can't do that. I have to be sure that I am called to stay here, or I can assume that I am called to GO.
I can't just sit here waiting. I must live with purpose. I must live as if I'm on a mission field. I must have a passion for reaching my neighborhood, my city, and my country. I must have goals. I must have passion for what I believe God is calling me to, whether it's staying here or going away.
I guess this line of thought has also released me from feeling like I am lesser if I'm not overseas, or in formal "mission work". God calls us to many different things and it's my job to be obedient, attentive, and ready for action - whatever that may mean.

To live with purpose and we are all called, is what I read from your blog. That is a good challenge, that makes me think.

Amen Sister! And do you know, it is entirely possible to actually live on the "field" and neglect your calling some days? Oh my. There are definitely days when I want to just stay hunkered deep down in the trenches rather than step up to the line of battle. Sigh. Must live EVERY DAY LIVE with purpose. Help me Jesus.

2 Cor. 5:20 is one of my favourite verses. We are told that, being a part of his (Christ's) body, we are, "Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God". Spiritually, we are already seated in "heavenly places in Christ" (Eph. 2:6). We are automatically made foreigners in the land we are in... this world... in which we are to shine as lights. As foreigners, all called to be ambassadors - representatives of Christ - in this foreign land! So really, we are all called to "foreign missions". Oh, that the cares of this world would fade, and not so often distract me from this calling!
