~We finally have quite a bit of snow! There's a nice hill by the girls' school and every afternoon a group of kids and parents hang out there for awhile after school. Yesterday was so much fun - the sun was shining and the kids were laughing so hard when they would pile on a sled and go screaming down the hill.
~Last weekend Daryl and I were blessed with 2 (TWO!) nights away. Our wonderful friend and babysitter, M took care of the girls and they had a great time. (They are still convinced they had way more fun than we did.) Daryl and I just got a hotel in town (a very long story - let's just say it wasn't the nicest hotel I've ever been to). We did some hiking both days (on one hike we got to watch some crazy surfers ride the frigid waves!) , enjoyed leisurely breakfasts, and used some gift cards to eat out for supper. And best of all - uninterrupted talking time. We sat at Starbucks for about 2 hours on Saturday with nothing to do and no place to go. Sweet.
~I baked 5 loaves of bread this week and we are down to 3 slices. Wonder if anyone likes carbs around here? Two of the loaves were cornmeal yeast bread, which reminds me of my childhood, and I just love it toasted with butter and honey. The other 3 were quinoa/raisin/cinnamon bread and we all love that toasted with cinnamon sugar. Mmmmm. No wonder they're almost gone.
~Today I plan to do a thorough cleaning of the girls' rooms. Yes, I plan to do it alone. And no, it's not by accident I've planned to do this task while they're at school. I'm just trying to decide how severe to be in my cleaning without making them feel violated. :-) We're planning to paint their rooms, so this is a good time to declutter.
~Part of the room cleaning is going to include putting toys/knick-knacks in boxes. It's become apparent that my children don't value their things (as much as I'd like to see!). So it's time to put things away and make them earn the right to get them back.
Am I a mean mother or what?
~We're planning to spend our Friday night at the library tonight! Have a super weekend.

yer mean. but i like it. :)
Nice to hear news from you! Sounds like you are all well. Your bread sounds yummy.
You're a good mommy for doing the decluttering act, etc. And for other things too, btw. No new pics of your cutie pies? Or before paint and after?
i can't imagine surfing in january?
Isn't the water cold???

Your time away with Daryl sounds wonderful! I want to make your quonia (sp?) bread recipe soon. Cinnamon and raisins would be great. enjoy the library.
Happy cleaning!!! We just did that a couple of weeks ago.
The breads do sound yummy. Could you send me the recipes? We could almost live on "bread alone" around here. When it's fresh, we down a whole loaf in one sitting, and I make big loaves! But then, we are 7 strong, 8 now, for awhile.
Anyway, let me just encourage you in your mean mom decisions too. I keep telling myself, and my kids, that I'm making decisions with "tomorrow" in mind rather than just today. One of these days these lessons will click, I just know it!
Hey, good to hear from you! How did the decluttering go? Was there a massive revolt? I'd love to hear. Have a great week .
